NBA Games Preview – Sunday 24.11.2019

The season goes on. Another Sunday with a very good card and a few early games:

Houston Rockets - Dallas Mavericks (20.30 UK Time)

This is one of the most interesting games of the night. Both teams are neighbours  the standings, leap-frogging one another for the 4th place in the West. Rockets lost 2 games in a row after the excellent streak before that. Both games were on the road and against West elite teams, Denver and Clippers, yet this doesn’t bode well for Houston’s championship aspirations. Nuggets were in control in the last few minutes of the game and won by 10 points. Rockets did better in the visit to LA. They were up a point when Kahwi created his space from the defender and calmly scored a mid jumper. Harden got doubled in the Rocket’s possession, passed to Russell who elected to shoot an open 3, although he could’ve driven to the paint. It was a miss and Paul George sealed it from the line.

Luka Doncic is leading his Dallas in unbelievable way in his second year in the league. Mavs are 7-3 in their last 10 games and on 4 games winning streak. They won’t be intimidated by the road factor in Houston for sure.

Verdict: We have odds here, +7.5 points for Dallas. It’s an excellent value in my opinion, as they have nothing to lose and Rockets may suffer the consequences of their bad road trip final. For the brave-hearted, Dallas money-line at juicy odds (around 3.70 – 3.80) is also worth a try for smaller stakes.

New York Knicks - Brooklyn Nets (23.00 UK Time)

The Big Apple derby…or not quite yet. Knicks are pathetic as expected and linger about the bottom of the East. They play dysfunctional style of basket with broken plays and no clear idea on the floor. Yet they somehow managed to get 3 wins in their last 10 games, including 2 wins over Dallas (something like a bad cat?).

Kyrie’s status is still uncertain about tonight. It doesn’t change much anyway, except the impact on the spread Nets need to cover.

Verdict: This is the second game in the season series. The first game took place in the season early day in Brooklyn’s arena. Nets won narrowly by 4 points, which was a surprise. It would be good if Kyrie misses the game, that would lower the spread by 2-3 points. Anyway I’d take Nets to cover any spread of 4 points or less. If we don’t have this pregame, waiting for a suitable spot in running might be the choice.

Washington Wizards - Sacramento Kings (23.00 UK Time)

Quite surprisingly, Wizards are 5-8 and sit on 9th place in the East. They will hardly succeed to stay in the play-off fringe battle for long, yet play a good offensive basketball. Their defense is another thing of course, which brings good OVERs in their games.

Sacramento are also 9th in the West and might remain in the fight for the last play-off spot, mainly because Spurs are quite bad. Kings are 6-4 in their last 10 games. They have only 2 road wins and 5 losses though.

Verdict: Predicting the winner is risky here, the game should be a coin-flip with a slight advantage for the home team. Maybe oddsmakers will give us a good Totals line though. I’d be willing to take any OVER line around 224-226 points.

Los Angeles Clippers - New Orleans Pelicans (02.00 UK Time)

Clippers climbed up to 3rd in the West after Paul George returned in the line-up this week. They are 7-3 in their last 10 and will undoubtedly see this home game against Pels as their 5th straight win.

New Orleans are not that bad though. They will try to fight with Kings and Suns for the last available play-off spot in the West. Ingramm returned in play and they are 5-5 in their last 10 games. In fact Pelicans won the first game in the series, 132-127, in New Orleans, some 10 days ago.

Verdict: Clippers will want a revenge here and will likely get it, in full power already. Oddsmakers will cover themselves though and the default spread will probably be around 9-10 points, which is too much. If Pelicans start well, it could go a bit lower in-play, say to 5-6 points. That would be a good moment to back Clippers to cover it.
